Maria Diebolt (@music.by.maria) is an international award-winning singer-songwriter from Fishers, Indiana. Maria Diebolt – “enough” Single

“enough” resonates deeply with listeners through its poignant lyrics, capturing the essence of emotional turmoil and conflict in the world. The line, “how did it get to this? I don’t even recognize us not one bit,” encapsulates the feeling of disconnection that many experience, making it relatable for countless individuals. The vivid expressions of strife and despair complicate the narrative, showing how love can sometimes transform into a source of pain.
“enough” also portrays the struggles faced by listeners as they navigate misunderstandings and disagreements. Maria laments, “Every single breath stolen from a chest should make you fight for better days,” showcasing a desire for improvement amidst discord. This inherent struggle demonstrates the reality that love can coexist with conflict.
Throughout the song, Maria repeatedly asks, “When will it be enough?” This rhetorical question highlights a critical contemplation: what qualifies as a resolution? The desire for healing and understanding starkly contrasts with feelings of neglect, leading to the powerful sentiment that resonates throughout the piece. Listeners are left pondering their own dynamics as they engage with the song’s raw emotionality.

In her own words, Maria Diebolt explains, “To be totally honest, this is a protest song. I wrote this the day both a mass school shooting & podcaster shooting happened. Both disgusting. Both unnecessary. But only one got major new breaks and mass sympathy, while the other was completely overshadowed and almost ignored. This sparked me to write a song based on a question I just keep asking myself: ‘When will it be enough?’ Every single day, another major thing happens, and I just wonder, when will it finally be enough for people to wake up and see what’s happening? To care about their neighbors and other people in general? Right now, you could probably throw a dart, and this song would apply to anything happening right now. From gun violence to kidnappings to food insecurity, this song simply asks you: when will it finally be enough?”
