Indulge in LEDI’s Moving and Affecting R&B Ballad, “Lie”

LEDI (@musicbyledi) is an up-and-coming London-based singer-songwriter from Indonesia. Not too long ago, she released an enchanting R&B ballad, “Lie,” alongside a lovely performance video, which finds LEDI stunningly showcasing her soaring vocals.

LEDI – “Lie” Live London Performance Video

“‘Lie’ was written back in 2018 inspired by my solitary, contemplative walk along London’s South Bank by the river Thames, after being lied to and two-timed by someone that I cared about and thought loved me dearly. The song reflects my state of mind and mixed emotions during the walk as I pondered, thought about the times we shared, and tried to navigate through my heartbreak from the betrayal. I realized everything we shared was ‘all a lie’ as soon as I found out that he lied to me, and I was not his only one.” – LEDI explained

A blues ballad hailed as both a solace but also an anthem of strength, “Lie” seamlessly blends elements of varying influences across R&B, soul, jazz, gospel, and contemporary pop to create a moving and affecting yet ultimately defiant track. Working with renowned producer Irfan Chasmala (producer & pianist known for his work with an array of famous Indonesian artists including Once Mekel, Krisdayanti, Glen Fredly, D’MASIV, and Reza Artamevia), the single brings together swaying drums, twinkling keys, grounding bass in a gradually building rich musical backdrop.

LEDI’s silky, emotive, and effortlessly spellbinding lead vocals take center stage as she delivers a stirring, emotive vocal performance. As the track gradually grows throughout, it reaches a euphoric crescendo in the latter third as it undergoes a key change, and LEDI’s vocals soar high above the gospel-like chorus of harmonies.

“‘Lie’ explores my melancholy, anger, and eventually the realization, confidence, and acceptance that I’ll be wiser, stronger, and fine without him around. The song ends with me letting go and on a path to healing and independence. I initially wrote ‘Lie’ for a uni portfolio assignment that I rushed because I only started writing it 4 hours before my deadline. I’m so pleased Irfan, along with everyone else involved with the release, saw a lot of potential in the song and now it’s out for the world to hear!” – LEDI explained

Having recorded at renowned studios Abbey Road Studios and Angel Studios and played packed-out shows across London, LEDI is no stranger to success. Her footprint in the a cappella world cannot be underestimated. For five years, she has journeyed through various performances, competitions, and festivals in the UK, US, and Europe as a vocalist for both The Rolling Tones and LowKey – including performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, tours across the UK, Europe, and the US West Coast – as well as headlining Germany’s esteemed Black Forest Voices festival.
