Over the last few months, Australian singer-songwriter/producer JVLY (@jvlymusic – pronounced “JULY”) has given us two exceptional singles “SOUTH” & “LOCUM,” while also making the promise of a whole new EP on the way titled “SUNDER.” Not too long ago, he gave us another taste of what we can expect from that EP with his new single “DROWNING IN MY ROOM,” which he says encapsulates the world he is trying to create with the “SUNDER” EP.
JVLY – “DROWNING IN MY ROOM”

“DROWNING IN MY ROOM” immerses listeners in a sonic landscape that evokes deep introspection and vulnerability. With evocative lyrics that resonate on many levels, it’s clear that JVLY has grasped the art of connecting with his audience.
The line, “I’m looking at a sea of velvet light, I’m sinking in the sky, but I’m inside and nothing is changing” paints a picture of beauty intertwined with despair. It reflects a moment of suspension between hope and hopelessness, creating an atmosphere that allows listeners to delve into their own emotional turmoil. The repetition of feelings of drowning signifies that repetitive cycle many can relate to, such as the notion of life being on a loop.
JVLY’s exploration of these complex emotions culminates in the powerful realization that “Sometimes it feels like I am drowning in my room.” This lyric encapsulates the essence of feeling trapped within one’s own mind, resonating with anyone who has experienced overwhelming feelings of isolation. The song serves as a reminder that acknowledging our struggles is the first step toward healing. Through “DROWNING IN MY ROOM,” JVLY invites us to confront our emotional states, offering solace in shared experiences.

In his own words, JVLY explains, “‘DROWNING IN MY ROOM’ sits right in the middle of ‘SUNDER’ and it’s a direct look at the world I’m trying to bring you into. When you look at a high-rise building in a city, there’s a different story in every window, everyone’s got things going on in their own little world. I think ‘DIMR’ is an ironic take on the traps of self-pity. Passing up ownership of issues doesn’t help anyone, but it’s easier to do because the blame gets shifted, and there’s something tempting in that, but how does that fix it, you know?
As soon as I had those chords on the juno and that groove with the bass and drums, and that kind of underwater sounding guitar line, I knew this track was the one to speak to that part of the story.”
