ELMA (@thisiselma), the artist alias of Swedish singer, songwriter, and pianist Matilda Gratte, recently released a heartfelt single, “In Terms Of You,” through 2025 MPG Records.

In the heart of winter, Elma ventured alone to southern Sweden, carrying only essentials: a keyboard, an SM7B microphone, a laptop, and 45 of her journals. By day, she wrote and ran along tempestuous beaches; by night, she sipped wine to ease her fear of the dark and the eerie quiet of a summer beach town in mid-January. She returned to Stockholm with her first self-produced album. Its lead single, “In Terms of You,” written, performed, and produced by ELMA, previews the full project, set for release in fall 2025.
In her own words, ELMA explains, “‘In Terms Of You’ is set in the aftermath of a breakup. The opening scene of the song describes the feeling of coming home to an empty apartment after a night out. You’ve tried all night to distract yourself, keeping your feelings at bay – but once you close the door, you’re alone in a space that used to belong to the two of you, and the silence is LOUD.”

Recently, she was featured on Mwuana’s latest album, a major Swedish rapper with over 100 million streams. From supporting Zara Larsson on Ed Sheeran’s world tour to collaborating with Loreen in the studio, ELMA has explored every facet of Sweden’s music scene. Her solo work has garnered nominations for Best Hip Hop/R&B at the GAFFA Awards and R&B/Soul Artist of the Year at the Manifest Gala. ELMA has previously performed as a backing vocalist for artists like Zara Larsson. Drawing inspiration from Frank Ocean, Daniel Caesar, and Snoh Aalegra, she has crafted a distinctive sound that blends their influences into her own unique style.
