In the world of music, lyrics often reflect the complexity of emotions we experience in relationships. “Fake to Me” encapsulates feelings of betrayal, longing, and confusion, making it relatable to anyone who has faced similar situations. The lyric, “You should’ve told me that this wasn’t gonna last,” sets the tone for the song, revealing a narrative of unfulfilled expectations.

One of the striking aspects of “Fake to Me” is its exploration of how communication—or the lack thereof—can impact a relationship. The line, “The city calling me, so I can’t just hit you back,” indicates that external influences can make it difficult to address personal feelings. This complexity adds depth as davey wrestles with moving on while reflecting on past memories.

Another powerful moment in the lyrics is found in the sentiment, “My heart saying the same thing, so why does it still hurt the same.” This line resonates with listeners who understand that emotional pain can linger, despite rational thoughts suggesting otherwise. davey skillfully navigates the struggle between the heart and mind, creating a relatable experience for anyone who has felt stuck in past relationships.

Ultimately, “Fake to Me” serves as a poignant reminder of how past connections can shape our present. As listeners, we are invited to reflect on our experiences, making this track both personal and universal.

davey started far away from where he is today, a common theme across his career. His influences, themes, and experiences across his life vary widely.

davey’s musical journey started as a young child, where he would sing around his childhood home. Taking inspiration from Filipino culture in his family, davey’s interest in singing and music blossomed into his teen years. During this time, he began classical training on multiple instruments, but ultimately, davey fell in love with audio production and hip-hop at the age of 13.

As a teenager, davey would drop numerous lo-fi and hip-hop songs on the browser DAW Audiotool under the name Oddity. These songs formed the basis of his understanding of music production. Later, he would explore creative writing and poetry, which would result in his first project on Soundcloud in 2018, RIP Summer, under his former alias daveyfrommars.

davey would go on hiatus from 2019 to 2024, making only one public performance as an opener for Anthony Orange in 2023. This performance, however, would change the trajectory of davey’s music career. In May 2024, davey would release his first single, “Out My Hands,” feature on Noise Complaint’s debut single, “Cashews,” and release his debut short film, “Before the Chaos.” With a hiatus marked by COVID, enlistment to the U.S. Army that took him to the Middle East, and relational turmoil, these experiences would inspire current and future release.
