Building on the momentum of her breakout singles – “Priority,” “Kid,” and “Turn Off The News,” Tanis (@tanismusic) continues her evolution with the release of her debut EP “Just some stories.” The record showcases her distinctive voice and fearless songwriting, weaving together personal reflection, raw emotion, and the bold energy that has defined her journey so far.
The project also introduces two brand new tracks – “Child In The Empty Forest” and “Not A Choice,” which push her sound into fresh territory while staying true to the honesty and energy that first caught her listeners’ attention. Together, these tracks complete a body of work that feels both cohesive and forward-looking, marking a confident new chapter in Tanis’s artistry.
Speaking on the EP as a whole, Tanis said: “They say having a full life is living one filled with all sorts of experiences. I often get asked what my songs are about, and ultimately, they are ‘just some stories’ that I’ve lived through and I’m sharing through music.”
Tanis – “Priority” (Official Visualizer)

Balancing cinematic production with heartfelt lyricism, the EP’s lead single, “Priority,” captures the complexity of love and self-respect through a rich tapestry of sound, melding silky pop with textured harmonies and emotional depth. It’s a song that resonates universally yet remains deeply personal.
TANIS – “Kid” (Official Video)

The following track, “Kid,” is super catchy with an anthemic pop chorus and sweeping melodic hooks. Balancing pop with heartfelt and profound lyricism. She is honest and open about the complexities of adult life and the longing to relive childhood. The wish to go back to a time – even for a moment – where there was less to worry about, fewer responsibilities, and less judgment.
Tanis showcases just how self-aware she is with observational and insightful lyrics on “Kid,” she sings, “It used to be cute when I was foolish, but no one forgives my actions now.”
Tanis – “Turn Off The News” (Official Video)

“Turn Off The News” is a witty and relatable exploration of post-breakup antics. Set in the aftermath of a relationship, the track captures lingering connections while celebrating the humor, perspective, and personal growth that come with starting over.
Musically, Tanis pairs themes of raw honesty and sarcastic wit with nostalgic electropop production that is both deeply personal and universally relatable. With its dreamy synths, driving beats, and anthemic energy, “Turn Off The News” molds a soundscape that mirrors the push and pull of letting go. The verses of the track hold an intimate vulnerability, whilst the chorus swells with uplifting energy.
Speaking on the single, Tanis said: “The song was inspired by my brother, who was complaining about how much amazing content his ex-girlfriend suddenly started posting right after they broke up and how he didn’t really need to know that much. It made me laugh at first, but then it made me think back to how many times I’ve heard this same pattern of post-breakup behavior and thought maybe I’d tell a little story about it.”
Tanis – “Child in The Empty Forest” (Official Video)

One of the new highlights, “Child In The Empty Forest,” unfolds as a slower, more cinematic piece that envelops the quiet ache of feeling like an outsider. Rich instrumentation and restrained vocals build a world that feels both otherworldly and deeply personal – a reflection on belonging, isolation, and the spaces in between. It’s a track that lingers long after it ends, inviting listeners into that same sense of longing and self-awareness she’s carried throughout her journey.
Tanis – “Not A Choice” Single

Closing the EP, “Not A Choice” strips everything back to its rawest form. Opening with gentle acoustic guitar and understated vocals, it swells gradually — not toward resolution, but acceptance. The song captures the tension between knowing your worth and fearing what you might lose by standing firm. As the final notes fade, “Not A Choice” feels like both an ending and a quiet promise: that strength and softness can coexist, even in the hardest goodbyes.
About Tanis

Coming from three continents, fluent in four languages, and being raised between vastly different worlds, Tanis is the definition of a global artist. Her upbringing took place across island coastlines, bustling cities, and historic streets. With every note, Tanis asserts a truth she’s always lived – that identity isn’t inherited, it’s created. She was constantly surrounded by shifting landscapes and ever-changing expectations. Despite the kaleidoscope of cultures around her, Tanis carved her own path – choosing not to define herself by where she was, but who she wanted to be. Her music mirrors the same independence: no boundaries, unstuck to set genres or traditions, and unapologetically her own.

Born to a French writer-producer and a Singaporean top model, Tanis has forged her own artistic path through music. A classically trained composer and multi-instrumentalist, she honed her craft at NYU’s prestigious Steinhardt College, earning the Elmer Bernstein Award for her work in film composition. Her multicultural upbringing, spanning six countries across three continents, continues to shape her distinctive, borderless sound.
Tanis began composing classical music at a young age, drawn to film scoring after watching Ennio Morricone (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly) conduct live. She went on to occupy her own space on a credits roll, winning a Disney competition for young composers to score a Chinese feature film (Trail of the Panda), at age 14. Today, she has an award-winning screen composition career to her name (Motel Melati, The Deepest Dance).

Tanis’ diverse artistic endeavors extend beyond her solo work. She has scored global productions in the US, UK, France, Japan, and Singapore, and recently earned a Broadcast Production Award for her composition ‘Wildcard’. Fluent in four languages and deeply committed to humanitarian causes, Tanis is not only an artist to watch but a global citizen with a powerful voice.

Tanis feels like a songwriter at her most lucid, diarising life’s changing tides, however they present, from feeling overlooked in a relationship on ‘Priority’ or exploring society’s obsession with boxing us in by age through ‘Kid’. Biographical or drawn from the experiences of those around her, the relatability on every track is apparent, the kind that’s long powered pop’s most accomplished storytellers before her.
