JOA – “Feel Sorry” Single

“Feel Sorry” captures the intricate emotions surrounding love and heartache. With poignant lyrics that resonate with many, the song delves into the struggles of maintaining a relationship amidst conflicts and misunderstandings.
The first verse sets the stage with powerful imagery, expressing the sacrifices made in love: “you’ve given everything, heartaches and wedding rings.” This line signifies a deep commitment, highlighting the emotional toll that love can have when faced with insecurity and arguments. The line, “what’s love, the arguing,” brings to light the tension that often arises in relationships, where one partner fights for the connection while the other may seem indifferent.
The chorus intensifies these feelings of longing and frustration. The line, “this ain’t what I deserve,” is a stark reminder of self-worth in the face of emotional turmoil. It emphasizes that, while one may not fear loneliness, that does not equate to being content with a dysfunctional relationship. The hope expressed in “tonight I hope to god you feel sorry” strikes a chord; it conveys a yearning for acknowledgment and remorse, essential elements in a healthy partnership.
As listeners, we can relate to the feelings expressed throughout “Feel Sorry.” The song encapsulates the rollercoaster of romance, where vulnerability and resilience coexist, ultimately leaving us wondering about the future of the relationship.

About the EP, JOA explains, “I called this ‘Feelings You Don’t Say Out Loud’ because that’s exactly what it is. A collection of songs I wrote about parts of love we often keep to ourselves: the uncomfortable thoughts we have about our partners but never say. The internal spirals and silent questioning. Writing this EP was a way for me to be honest with myself about my feelings, and to place my inner monologue into something physical, my writing book.
While writing it, I pictured myself inside a metaphorical house, a house that represents my mind. Each track unfolds in its own room, capturing a different emotion or state in a relationship. Visually, the journey starts with me letting someone into this house, and by the time the final track ends, I’m letting them leave again.”

“Sometimes, letting someone love you can feel like letting a stranger into your house. You want to believe you can trust them, that they won’t break things or take something you can’t replace. But love carries risk. It’s beautiful, but it’s also terrifying. With this project, I wanted to capture the brutal vulnerability that comes with letting someone in, letting someone love you.
I chose each of the songs carefully because they represent different corners of that emotional house, different stages of love, uncertainty, and vulnerability. I want this to be something my listeners can turn on when they need to feel seen. Maybe after an argument with their partner? On the bus ride home, totally drained, and unsure if they’re doing the right thing? I hope this EP gives space for emotions they haven’t been able to name yet, the feelings you don’t say out loud.”
