DBMK is the Nashville-based project of Kyle Knudsen (vocals) and Colton Ward (drums). Not too long ago, they released an alternative-rock tune, entitled, “Chains.”

“I was robbing a store but I had tears in my eyes. I read the comments to myself and that’s what kept me alive. What’s up with my ego lately? It’s evil and crazy since Shelly died. I’ve got both of my chains on, I’m writing my theme song, it can’t just go all wrong all the time. If the world’s gonna bend – then just let it. At least I’ve got a few friends and they don’t seem to sweat it.” – lyrics

‘Chains’ tells an inspiringly gloomy tale about a young guy who doesn’t want to grow up because he feels the weight of the world on his shoulders. Apparently, he’s having difficulty sleeping, oftentimes, tossing and turning at night. Later, he admits, “I don’t know why I never could wrap my head around the way that I lie to myself that it won’t get better. But here in my room, I’m alive as I thought I’d ever be. It won’t be my tomb tonight.”

‘Chains’ contains an encouraging narrative, ear-pleasing vocals, and tuneful melodies. The hopeful tune possesses guitar-laden instrumentation flavored with alternative and pop-rock elements. Furthermore, “Chains” arrives on the heels of “Tough,” DBMK’s infectious 2021 single that addressed the frustrations of feeling stuck in life.

“They don’t see what I see and they don’t dream what I dream. If they’ve got darkness in the corners, I’ve got what’s in between.”

“We’re a generation facing what feels like another apocalypse at the start of every day and live on the cliché, ‘We’re here not for a long time, but a good time.’ But while this may be true, we don’t have to spend that time alone and we can even dress up and make it a party along the way.” – DBMK explained

DBMK pushes the boundaries of their eclectic alt-pop sound. Their songs explore the complex layers of the human experience — change, love, loss, joy, misery, triumph, disappointment — with compassion and curiosity. With support from their dedicated fanbase, the KULT, DBMK have quickly emerged as one of the most exciting alt-pop projects out there. So far, they’ve sold out numerous shows in their home state of Florida and have also managed their own DIY tours all across the country.
