The track explores the emotional spiral of anxiety, specifically the moment of realization that self-protection has turned into self-isolation. It reflects a time when Yoji stopped doing the things she loved in an attempt to cope with anxiety. What began as a safe retreat eventually became a lonely one, a metaphorical cabin in the woods. The song captures the desire to break free, reconnect with life, and move forward with courage.
Musically, the track weaves together contemporary R&B, neo-soul, indie pop, and singer-songwriter elements. It features atmospheric production, layered harmonies, and an emotionally charged vocal performance, offering listeners a powerful introduction to the album’s sonic and emotional palette.
About Yoji
From her early days composing songs in the playground to mastering classical piano, Yoji’s music has always drawn upon deeply personal themes and experiences. Surrounded by a family of creatives, she was encouraged to nurture her talent, leading her to earn a Master’s in Popular Music from Goldsmiths. Her self-produced singles and EPs, like Retro Romance, reflect her growth as both an artist and producer.
Yoji’s songwriting versatility has led her to co-write across genres, collaborating with notable names like Talay Riley and Jay DX. She has performed at iconic venues, from supporting Kool & The Gang at the O2 Arena to intimate shows at London’s Jazz Cafe alongside national radio plays on Capital FM and BBC Radio 1.
Passionate about using her art for good, Yoji also released a charity single in partnership with Samaritans. As part of the trio SOULiloquy, her talents continue to shine, with their debut album earning recognition on BBC 1Xtra.
