In her own words, Tiffany Thompson explains, “‘Teachers’ is a meditation on letting go that I wrote while watching autumn leaves surrender to the season. My dad, a pastor who loved trees and prayer walks among quiet oaks and maples, called this ‘the tree song,’ and it became one of the last songs I sang to him.
In September 2025, 10 days after a stage four pancreatic cancer diagnosis, my father passed away with the grace of a Ginkgo tree letting go of its golden leaves. During those final days in the hospital, when I tried to speak, I choked on words, but when I sang ‘Teachers,’ I could breathe. The song’s soft, floating melody carried what I couldn’t say, ‘every riven thing, pieces mending’ and ‘falling to the ground, I let loose what was bound.’
Written before his diagnosis but now forever changed by it, ‘Teachers’ explores how the natural world teaches us about transformation, renewal, and the courage to release what we’re holding onto. From my album ‘Found Love,’ it’s a song about trusting there’s another bloom, even when the garden feels like it’s dying.”
