Thuy (twee) is an LA-based singer-songwriter from the Bay Area, California. Not too long ago, she released a lovely lyric visualizer for her “111” single.

2020 was a difficult year for many, and for Thuy, it was no different. Locked down at home amidst a pandemic and uncertain about the future, she penned introspective words reflecting her state during a heightened time of worry, anxiety, and stress. Facing these thoughts, a bright and inspiring “111” was written as a reminder to trust in herself and not give up on days when dark thoughts overcame her. For Thuy, inspiration comes from within.

‘111’ contains an introspective narrative, ear-pleasing vocals, and tuneful melodies that will resonate well with fans of Arian Grande, Kehlani, and Kiana Lede. The inspiring tune possesses lush instrumentation flavored with a warm contemporary R&B aroma. Furthermore, “111” serves as a wonderful presentation of what listeners can expect to hear on Thuy’s upcoming debut EP, set to be released in the summer of 2021. The highly anticipated project contains a collection of songs touching on heartbreak, love, and empowerment.

“Sometimes I feel like I’m walking through life and I’m like motionless. For some people, it could feel like you’re just going through the motions. And there is no intent behind anything because you’re dealing with all these demons and anxiety in your head. I deal with a lot of anxiety. There were many times where I was like screw music. I don’t want to do this anymore. But I remind myself, ‘look how much you’ve accomplished. Don’t stop now.’ I feel like this song can be relatable in so many realms: work, personal, and relationships. I just hope this message gets across to people to help them get through whatever it is they need to get through.” – Thuy explained

Thuy was raised with a rich Vietnamese heritage. Whether it was singing karaoke with family or on the stoops of her childhood home in Oakland, singing made her happy. Like many ‘90s babies, she treasured pop idols, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. At the age of nine, she knew she wanted to be a pop star. However, with no idols to look up to who looked like her, Thuy scraped her dreams of being a music star. Instead, she focused on school and eventually entered the medical field. After a chance visit to a studio session with friends, Thuy realized what a professional career in music could look like. Shortly afterward, she recorded her “Hands on Me” single.  Since then, her music has amassed over 40 million streams worldwide. Now, Thuy hopes her music continues to inspire confidence in others and to be a voice for those who want to feel seen.

“If Only I could get away from standing in my own way. Try to be better than I was yesterday. Head in the clouds, but days are gray. You could be anything, anything you dreamed of. You might feel out of place. I know at times it seems tough, but when you find your way, you’ll fly so high. So don’t you give up on it, yet. Don’t think too much, just trust in yourself, trust when will you realize.” – lyrics
