St. Paul & The Broken Bones – “Apollo”
“Lookin’ down from my RV. Captain, can you get her to call me? Though I may be far gone. Know that she’s my only desire—stay in her arms where the room is shaded. Lose control and I might go crazy.”
Apollo is a contemporary love song about an astronaut (or a traveling musician) that is desperately trying to get home to the woman he loves. While in space (or on tour), he thinks about her all day long. But air (gas) is gone so he’s not able to travel home. He’s stuck where he is, and gravity (distance) separates them.
He tries to call her to say that he won’t be able to come home to hold her. But that’s not possible. He even asks the Captain (tour manager) to get in contact with her so she can call him.
When all hope is lost, it’s hard to breathe, and anxiety settles in. The astronaut is homesick and ready to go home. At this point, he loses his mind and tells the stars her name as he passes them.
