GRAMMY-nominated duo Sofi Tukker (@sofitukker) recently collaborated with renowned Brazilian artist Seu Jorge (@seujorge) on the silky smooth bossa nova tune “Bread (butter version),” the first offering to be unveiled from Sofi Tukker’s forthcoming album, “butter,” set for release on May 16th. “butter” is a celebration of Brazilian culture and music, and is the jazz-infused, alter-ego companion to the band’s acclaimed 2024 album “BREAD.”

The alluring pairing of Sofi Tukker and Seu Jorge on “Bread (butter version)” was a dream come true for Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, the duo who comprise Sofi Tukker. The title track from their album “BREAD” has been reworked as a seductive, smooth new arrangement that sees Sophie singing in Portuguese and Seu Jorge singing in English – a surprising role reversal for the band who initially conceived recording it the other way around.
In her own words, Sophie explains, “The night we recorded with Seu Jorge will be especially ingrained in my memory forever. I had just seen him perform the bossa nova classics at Carnegie Hall and I consider him one of the greatest artists of all time. And yet, he looked at me with such sincerity and thanked me for the opportunity. He explained how much it meant to him that, as an American, I had taken the time to learn Portuguese and sing in his language. I was blown away… he has one of those once-in-a-generation voices and I still can’t believe we got to do a song with him.”

Recorded in Brazil, “butter” displays a different side of Sofi Tukker. Known for their inclusive and global perspective on electronic music, butter allowed them to delve into other Brazilian genres they love, including MPB, bossa nova, and samba, along with Latin genres bolero and bachata, and more contemporary genres like reggae and samba-reggae. With its top-down, breezy atmosphere, “butter” features Sofi Tukker along with incomparable Brazilian musicians using nearly all organic elements, making for a striking contrast to their more dance/EDM fare.
Fresh off their set at Stagecoach’s Diplo’s Honky Tonk, Sofi Tukker has more live dates throughout 2025. Upcoming appearances include their residency in Las Vegas at various Wynn Nightlife properties, BottleRock Napa Valley (5/23), Breakaway Festival Ohio (5/30), and World Pride 2025 in Washington DC (June 6-7).
