“Jay Jay” is a playful, high-energy Afrobeats-dancehall anthem that draws inspiration from Nigerian football legend Jay-Jay Okocha, known for his dazzling footwork and unpredictable moves on the pitch. Ruger uses Okocha’s signature dribbling skills as a metaphor for his approach to relationships – and with tongue-in-cheek lyricism, Ruger emphasizes his preference for freedom, likening this to Okocha’s free-wheeling style during his prime in the English Premier League.
“Jay Jay” follows 2024’s “Toma Toma,” Ruger’s massive collaboration with Tiwa Savage, and is another preview into his highly anticipated second solo studio album, due later this year.

Ruger’s momentum continues to build—he’s been nominated for Best African Music Act at the 2025 MOBO Awards, and last month, he delivered an electrifying BBC 1Xtra Live Lounge performance, where he performed “Toma Toma” and covered “Mad Over You” by Runtown.
