“CLOSED OFF” delves into complex emotions around love and vulnerability. The lyrics portray Lahlia Cole’s longing for connection while grappling with feelings of sadness and uncertainty. For instance, the poignant lines express a desire for reassurance: “I sip a little at a time but way more than I’m used to,” indicating a struggle to cope with emotions. This sets the stage for deeper explorations of interpersonal dynamics.

Later, in the song, Lahlia sings, “Where’d you go?” highlighting a sense of abandonment and the need for communication. The plea to “text my phone” suggests that modern relationships often hinge on technology for emotional connection. This reflects a common experience where individuals crave closeness yet fear vulnerability. The line “I need to tell you don’t be so closed off” emphasizes the importance of openness in fostering intimate relationships.

Ultimately, “CLOSED OFF” utilizes vivid imagery. Phrases such as “make you hope, wish, and pray that the spirit of the saved don’t save me” reveal an internal conflict where Lahlia yearns for emotional safety but also fears being trapped. By addressing themes of embarrassment and worthiness, the song resonates with listeners who understand the challenge of maintaining self-esteem in the realm of romantic entanglements.

In his own words, PLASTIC GHOSTS explains, “It has been a goal of mine to make a song featuring a vocalist for a long while, and it was so incredible working with a talented artist on this. Lahlia was so open to working on this with me and really brought it to life. The song is part of an album I am working on as a producer, where each song features a different vocalist. This song essentially defines the sound that I have been aiming for as a producer, and I am hoping to have it serve as a benchmark for working with more vocalists in the future. I am also putting my all into marketing this song, as it’s the first one that I feel truly defines what kind of music I want to make.”
