“Lost in Montana” delves into themes of loss and self-exploration. In the poignant verse, “Will you take my bones and leave the rest behind? For what it’s worth, I still haven’t lost my mind,” Sampson expresses a deep yearning for connection despite the weight of his experiences. This line, both haunting and beautiful, reflects a struggle that many can relate to, creating a powerful emotional bond with the audience.

Throughout the song, Sampson’s storytelling prowess shines as he navigates the complexities of love and fear. The pre-chorus, where he admits, “I bite, but it’s fine, cause it’s all out of fear,” reveals vulnerability and the instinctual defenses we build around our hearts. The repeated plea in the chorus, “Will you come find me, finally?” encapsulates the desperation for understanding and closeness that resonates widely.

Ultimately, “Lost in Montana” supports a narrative that touches on the universal human experience of searching for meaning amid chaos. Sampson’s ability to combine evocative lyrics with melodious tunes makes him a promising artist to watch in the indie country music genre.

In his own words, Patrick Sampson explains, “‘Lost in Montana’ was a dream come true to record. After 10 years of touring and making music, I had the opportunity to record this song with Grammy winning producer, Robert Cutarella, and my unbelievably supportive family, friends, and fans helped me succeed on my FIRST EVER Kickstarter campaign to raise the money to pay for the studio time and travel to do it, and I couldn’t be happier that after so many months of working on this song, it is ready to be heard by the world!

Musically, you’ll hear acoustic guitars, piano, bass, organ, drums, and a beautifully played, hundred-year-old fiddle. Climactic choruses and some lightly layered vocals tie in the more intimate verses that tell the story of living, being lost, and the inevitable hope of being found! A song of life, faith, and experience that all can relate to, and I’m so grateful to any and all who listen!”

Patrick Sampson is familiar with the meaning of polar opposites. That’s because he is barely in his 20s, but he’s been channeling the maturity of an older, seasoned songwriter ever since he wrote his first song at the age of 15. When you combine his natural knack for melody, a smooth voice, his guitar playing ability, and his poetic, sometimes cinematic style of lyrics and storylines, you can understand why Sampson’s music resonates with listeners.
