Olivia Penalva is a chart-topping singer-songwriter from British Columbia, Canada. Not too long ago, she released an appealing music video for her new feel-good single, entitled, “Judge Away,” co-written with Troy Samson. The song finds Olivia doing what she does best – thoughtfully employing music to navigate the trials and tribulations of self-discovery.

“This project is definitely one of my favorites I’ve done so far. When it came to this song, I didn’t want to create something so literal to my life because this song was written for all the people out there who have ever felt judged and I knew it wasn’t about me. Letting go of the judgment from others can be so liberating and I really just wanted a video showcasing that feeling. How much fun you can have when you aren’t spending all your time caring about the negative things the world has to say. If you want to dance, dance. If you want to wear the bathing suit, wear it.
When I teamed up with Working Holiday on this project, I knew they could create exactly what I was looking for, and they did. I was so fortunate to have such a great cast and crew on set to make this dream come to life and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.” – Olivia Penalva explained
‘Judge Away’ contains a positive narrative, ear-pleasing vocals, and catchy melodies that will resonate well with fans of Noelle Johnson, Laur Elle, and Madison Olds. The likable tune possesses guitar-laden instrumentation flavored with indie and contemporary pop elements. Furthermore, “Judge Away” follows mildly on the heels of Olivia’s previously released single, “Ex’s,” which charted in the Top 20 on Canadian Radio and in the Top 50 on U.S. Mainstream Pop Radio.
“The idea for this song came to me late one night while I was scrolling through social media realizing how much judgment there is in the world. I think all of us have experienced some sort of pain from judgment and outside opinion. Whether it be from friends, loved ones, or even strangers. It’s not always easy to accept and love ourselves with all that noise. And I realized how much more liberating it would feel to drown it all out and root for ourselves instead.” – Olivia Penalva explained
Olivia Penalva is still twinkling from her Western Canadian Music Award (WCMA) nominations for Pop Artist of the Year and Breakout Artist of the Year in 2021. Her raw talent and intended vulnerability opened the doors for her to work with some of the industry’s top writers. So far, she has collaborated with Nolan Sipe (Jonas Brothers), David “Messy” Mescon (Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande), Phil Barton (Lee Brice), Brian Howes (Simple Plan), Patricia Conroy and Dave Thompson (Lady A), and Troy Samson (Kelly Rowland). As she continued to amass impressive streaming numbers, Olivia has made the instinctive effort to focus on curating her individualized sound, one that has become unique within the assemblies of pop releases across the industry.
