Co-written with Noga Erez and Ori Rousso and co-produced with Ori Rousso and Matan Egozi, “Purple Rose” is a sultry track about unrequited love. The official release follows the song’s inclusion in the cult video game The Sims, where the track was sung in the game’s made-up language “Simlish.”
In his own words, Mergui explains the inspiration behind the song, “‘Purple Rose’ is about the lengths we go to for love, even when it’s unreciprocated. Whether it’s the early days of a crush or the later stages of a draining relationship, the song explores the bittersweet reality of loving someone who doesn’t feel the same way about you. It captures the frustration of giving your all—changing, sacrificing, hoping—only to realize that it will never be enough for them. It makes you wonder if any of it was worth it, asking, ‘Should I do it all for you?’”

“Purple Rose” follows the release of Mergui’s “Say Something” cover– which has amassed over 2 million streams on Amazon Music alone– along with his “Nobody Really Knows” EP, released in January.

The EP includes previously released singles “On My Mind,” which amassed over half a million streams in less than two months and sparked a rework by renowned record producer and DJ Sam Feldt, and “10,000 Faces.” The project also features new tracks “Nobody Knows” and “Criminal,” which was written by the legendary Diane Warren.

For almost his entire life, Mergui has made it his mission to push the limits of modern pop music. He has accomplished some incredible feats such as opening for both Bruno Mars and Maroon 5 to a captivated audience of 65,000.
Mergui’s unguarded sense of vulnerability shines through in his art, landing him a coveted spot on People Magazine’s Emerging Artists of 2024 list. Following a successful tour with Forest Blakk and a collaboration with Sam Feldt in the latter half of 2024, Mergui is ready to take 2025 by storm.
