In a candid reflection, Lenn shares her experience of being an older sister. She recognizes the vital role she plays as a confidante and support system for her three younger siblings. “On-call therapist, guinea pig, personal advisor, safety net, no judgment zone…Don’t get me wrong, I’ve not always perfectly been these things for my three little sisters,” Lenn admits. “But there have been plenty of times that I didn’t know where I could turn to find help with things that you just need someone a little older and wiser who would get it, gets you, and will love you no matter what you do or say. So, I wrote ‘older sister.’ Cause I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s felt that before. Felt misunderstood. Felt the weight of love for your youngers. Felt unsure where to go next. So ‘older sister’ is for the ones who need a hand to hold. I’m sure I have the capacity to hold a few more hands and maybe you’ll find ‘older sister’ helps you feel seen.”

She was there for them, but who was there for her? The lyric “Would life be soft in a hand me down?” poses the core question at the heart of “older sister” and is indicative of a deep-rooted longing for the wisdom and counsel that an older sister can provide when life gets hard, heads get turned, and a clear sense of direction is nothing more than an alien notion.

“Older Sister” resonates deeply with anyone who has ever felt the burden of love and responsibility for younger family members. Lenn’s lyrics remind listeners that it’s okay to feel lost or in need of help. Each note holds an invitation to connect, to feel understood, and to know that there is always someone willing to support you. Whether you have an older sister or not, the song serves as a reminder that we all need a hand to hold at times. Lenn hopes her music helps listeners feel seen and validated in their experiences.

Lenn grew up in a small town in Hertfordshire with only Christian music in the home. She didn’t discover another genre until she was in her teens so can be forgiven for not having a catalogue of historical influences. She prefers to take inspiration from the music of her contemporaries finding solace with artists like Bon Iver, James Blake, Banks, Ben Howard, SZA, and FKA Twigs.

Despite dreaming of a future in music from a young age, it was only in 2022 that the Lenn project truly started to emerge, and in little over a year, she created an impressive highlight reel. Vocalist on Icarus’ sold-out UK tour, which climaxed with a transcendent show in London’s iconic Village Underground. Features with prominent electronic artists Icarus (Fly Boy), Hidden Face (IN/ROTATION), and Grafix on Wilkinson’s Sleepless label. The release of her debut EP has been championed by BBC Introducing, BBC Upload, tastemaker blogs, and editorial playlists.

In her own words, Lenn explains, “Getting to this stage has been a long journey. I’m proud of the music and grateful to all those who have come alongside me. It would be on brand for me to muse on the low moments and pressures I’ve experienced doing this, but the music communicates a lot of that and I just hope it resonates and is a comfort to those going through it.”
