“It’s the first day I slept this good, I woke up to you on your birthday. I wish that I could stop thinking about you in the worst way. ‘Cause, I’ve been thinking about you every day since the first day, since our first date. And in between kisses, I wonder what this is. Could it be something? Could this become love?” – lyrics
‘In Between Kisses’ tells an endearing tale about a young woman who wants her new lover to never stop kissing her. Apparently, she doesn’t want their pecking session to end anytime soon, and he doesn’t want it to stop either. Not too long ago, the woman promised her friends that she was going to take it slow, relationship-wise. But she ditched that promise after steering deeply into her lover’s seductive eyes. Later, she tells him, “It’s the first time since the last time I felt this good in a long time.”
‘In Between Kisses’ feels like an endearing diary entry. Something you wouldn’t say out loud but wish you had the nerve to. The romantic tune contains an intimate storyline and ear-pleasing vocals that will resonate well with fans of Orion Sun, Ama Lou, Hope Tala, Lianne La Havas, and Corinne Bailey Rae. Furthermore, “In Between Kisses” possesses guitar-laden production sonically bursting with a warm contemporary R&B vibration. Also, the song captures the giddiness and joy, butterflies and rush, and vulnerability and honesty of a new relationship.
“If you decide you don’t want me by your side. Kiss me one more time, I bet you’ll change your mind.”
“The inspiration behind this song is the terrifying beginning stages of a relationship. There’s this delicate dance between showing your cards and playing it cool. I think in the lyrics, I’m showing all the cards but my vocal delivery shows a little reserve, a little hesitancy. I’d describe the vibe as sexy and vulnerable. Also, it has a playful, lightheartedness to it. You could slow dance with your bae while listening. Or you could dance in the mirror, rehearsing what you’ll say to your crush. I think it feels good. I want people to listen to it and remember the butterflies they get when they realize they’re into someone. I want it to feel like falling in love.” – Kevonna Rose explained
Kevonna Rose grew up listening to gospel, soul, pop, doo-wop, and everything in between. Coming from a long lineage of musicians, Rose’s uncle gifted her a guitar that she couldn’t put down. Since then, she has been dazzling listeners with her soulful vocals and carefully crafted lyrics. Not too long ago, Rose was a finalist in Essence Festival’s “Show Your Range” contest and won the “Wawa Welcome America” contest, where she opened for Ms. Lauryn Hill and Common. Her live performances also earned her features on NPR Music’s “Best Tiny Desk Submissions This Week” and on SoFar Sounds’ “Best of the Listening Room.”
