Jonah Kagen releases an appealing music video for his “Broken” single

Jonah Kagen is a singer-songwriter and producer from Savannah, GA. Not too long ago, he released an appealing music video for his first full-length single, entitled, “Broken,” via Arista Records.

Jonah Kagen – “Broken” music video

“I’m broken, tell you I’m fine. But you wouldn’t believe me if you knew the things that crossed my mind. And I’m hurting, but I show no sign. ‘Cause I’m afraid to give in, break down and waste your time. Now I’m begging you to come and pull me out of the fire. Come and save me like you did when we were young. Oh please come bring me up from my lowest take me higher. Can you see me through the ashes and the smoke?” – lyrics

‘Broken’ tells an unhappy tale about a lonely young man who is experiencing a dark moment in life. Apparently, he’s shattered, beat down, broken, and the weakest version of himself. Also, he hasn’t felt loved or smiled in a very long time. Therefore, he pleads for someone special to pull him out of the fire that he has been burning in.

‘Broken’ contains a sad narrative, ear-pleasing vocalization, and tuneful melodies. The gloomy tune possesses guitar-driven instrumentation flavored with a warm indie-pop vibration. Furthermore, “Broken” serves as a fantastic introduction to what listeners can expect to hear from Jonah Kagen in the near future.

Jonah Kagen approaches the guitar with the instinctual know-how of a jazz virtuoso. Also, he pens lyrics that turn into festival singalongs, tweets, and tattoos. Speaking of tattoos, his choice of body ink represents the two sides of his personality. One half depicts all kinds of creepy imagery in black-and-white, and the other half—colorfully cheerful. For as wide as his smile is, his passion for horror flicks and hometown ghost lore might be just as broad. This duality shines on his Arista debut.

In fall 2020, Kagen previewed “Broken” by encouraging his followers to “co-write” with him via TikTok, which incited a flurry of duets (5,000 to date). As the video amassed millions of social views and engagements, Kagen built up anticipation for its formal release, attracting a staggering 30,000 pre-saves. Over the first three months post-release, “Broken” gathered over 10 million streams across listening platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more.

Jonah Kagen began his music career with his very first guitar lesson at the age of six. Since then, he has dedicated much of his life to the ongoing mastery of his craft. While Kagen is a classically-trained guitarist, his musical talents extend well beyond the realm of strings. He draws inspiration from a wide array of musicians such as Anson Seabra, Lauv, Julia Michaels, Lost Frequencies, RÜFÜS DU SOL, and Kygo.

When he’s not creating music, Kagen is either leading as Team Captain for the Cornell Men’s Soccer team (D1), escaping into nature, trying to convince someone to let him pet their dog, or watching horror movies. Listeners who enjoy laid-back vocals and chill electronic will get lost in Kagen’s tracks, most of which feature his first love: acoustic guitar.
