Music has always been Ivana June’s safe space. Raised in a musical household in London, she began writing songs at the age of 10, later learning to produce demos at 15. Introduced to the piano at a young age, Ivana later taught herself guitar, bass, and music production. Her identity as both a writer and a producer has given her the creative freedom to craft her sound precisely as she envisions it. Her Spanish heritage also plays a key role in her music, influencing the rhythms and melodies toward which she naturally gravitates.
“I want my music to offer people the same sense of escapism it has always given me,” Ivana June says. “I also hope it inspires others, especially women, to express their feelings and thoughts through music and creativity. I’ve always felt most empowered when producing and writing about my own experiences.”
The seeds for Ivana’s love and aptitude for music were sown early in her childhood as her father’s love for jazz sparked Ivana’s appreciation of the genre and led to her eventual discovery of seminal artists such as Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and Marvin Gaye. More recent inspirations of hers include The Marias, Ezra Collective, and Olivia Dean.
Ivana June has been playing her trade in numerous live venues across London, with her devoted and extremely tight band. If the reception she gets at these gigs is anything to go by, Ivana is certainly one to watch for the future.
