GRAMN. – “REASONS” Single

“REASONS” is a powerful meditation on empathy, struggle, and the need to be understood. Built on lush, pulsing production that carries the urgency of a protest song, it weaves intimacy with universality. GRAMN’s delivery makes the personal resonate as something collective, creating a track that feels both vulnerable and anthemic.
In her own words, Aux explains, “‘Reasons’ is about real empathy. The first story I tell in the song is when I got jumped, and instead of living with the anger, I tried to understand what was going on for him — his reasons — and that’s how I found peace. The second story is when my own choices hurt the people I love. Forgiving myself was harder, but if we’re all shaped by our conditions, I’ve got to carry forgiveness for myself as well as others. This song is me asking the same back — for people to look at me with that same curiosity and listen to my reasons.”
About GRAMN.

How can you measure everything in life? Check the name of Hackney-hailed rising collective, GRAMN. for a clue. Spearheaded by remarkable East London singer, songwriter, and storyteller Aux, GRAMN. is poised to be one of London’s most exciting breakout acts, and is using their music as a means of resistance – measuring and dosing out raw truths and harsh realities amidst groove-laden soundscapes.
Working as a backing vocalist for Iggy Azealia at the tender age of 18, it wasn’t until precocious lead vocalist Aux started working exclusively with boundary-pushing producers and multi-instrumentalists James Lowe and Johnny Tomlinson that GRAMN. was born. Inspired by a melting pot of influences – from Lauryn Hill to Kendrick Lamar and contemporary provocateurs such as Tierra Whack – we’re transported somewhere new and untraversed.
Buoyant hip-hop beats, tightly-wound R&B and jazz melodies, mellifluous rap, and neo-soul merge for a body-winding listening experience, but also a lifeline in difficult times. Sharing stories about the Black Lives Matter movement, domestic abuse, family, love, and Aux’s own struggles with mental health, this outspoken and honest candour is central to GRAMN.’s essence.
Aux

“I’m Black every day, I didn’t just find out that I was black in June,” Aux explains passionately. “From my perspective, I don’t think I would be comfortable having a big voice and not using it for those reasons, and you learn to speak up because if you don’t, people will tread all over you.”
Aux’s voice is undeniably the central instrument, elastic like a rubber band. Defiant yet vulnerable; swooping to a reverberating low murmur then soaring to a cosmic falsetto – suddenly chopping in character vocal distortions – cartoonish and exaggerated in one breath, then crystalline in the next.
