Embracing Self-Discovery Via Charli Lark’s “Burn It Down” Single

Charli Lark (@charlilarkmusic) is an artist from Louisiana. Not too long ago, she released an adrenaline-fueled pop single, “Burn It Down,” produced by Steve Manovsk via Blaze Bloom Music. The song embodies growth, mirroring Charli’s transformative journey. With bold lyrics and powerful production, the track marks another poignant chapter in Charli’s life, embracing self-discovery and unapologetic reinvention.

On “Burn It Down,” Charli Lark channels the frustration of being silenced and controlled, flipping it into a powerful call to reclaim autonomy. The song is about setting fire to what’s holding you down and breaking free. Over a driving beat and razor-sharp strings, Charli defiantly sings, “How you gonna know, where you wanna go? Someone’s got your throat in their hands. Don’t ask for sympathy, you brought the gasoline, now I’ve got the lighter in my hands.”

In her own words, Charli explains, “I want people to listen to this as they are getting up the nerve to quit a sh*tty job, leave a relationship that has taken them for granted, or want to scream at the culture that has taken our rich beautiful potential and turned our lives into a series of to-do lists and torture trials. This song feels to me like the villain in the movie that you’re not supposed to root for, but they’ve written her too true, too relatable and you can’t help but want to see her win.”

“Burn It Down” is the first release from Charli’s upcoming 5-track EP, born from an intense writing and recording trip to the UK in March 2024. Bringing a collection of pre-written songs, lyrics, and melodies, Charli entered the sessions as both a skilled solo songwriter and a dynamic collaborator. This creative journey was about leveling up with top producers outside the label system, and Lark poured herself into crafting a body of work that blended her original ideas with the fresh, fearless energy of collaboration. Each day sparked something new—a mood, a phrase, an evolution—culminating in the five tracks that emerged from this process.

Growing up in Louisiana, Charli always loved music, despite limited opportunities. She started singing at fairs and talent shows as a child, and by college, she was performing at local open mics. However, her musical dreams often felt sidelined. After years in corporate America, Charli moved to New York City to pursue music more seriously. She married, had children, and eventually settled in Idaho. As her marriage became toxic, songwriting became her therapy, but the strain of rural life and a failing relationship took its toll. Finally, she reached a breaking point. “It might have looked like a breakdown, but now I know it was a breakthrough.”

This breakthrough sparked what Charli calls her Second Life. She reflects on how society teaches us to master one role or career and stick to it, but that’s not the reality. “We’re deep, multi-faceted, and just because we choose a path in our twenties doesn’t mean we can’t evolve and change,” she says. Her journey since has been one of shedding old expectations—those imposed by others and those she adopted herself—to rediscover her true self.

Through spirituality and songwriting, Charli began peeling away the layers of calcified emotions and beliefs, reconnecting to the joyful spark within. “It’s like an unlayering process—releasing the heavy things that weighed me down and unlocked this dormant power that was there the whole time.” She encourages personal transformation, reminding others that it’s never too late to become whoever you want, even if it defies others’ expectations.
