“Heartbroken Ones” resonates deeply with anyone who has ever felt the pangs of a broken relationship. Barkan poignantly sings, “Heartbroken ones, go in there and cry it out.” This powerful message is comforting and cathartic. “I know that you’re broken down, but it won’t last forever,” invites listeners to wallow in their emotions because sometimes, crying is the best remedy.
In her own words, Bridget Barkan explains, “I wrote this song after finding out my boyfriend of six years had been cheating on me. I sang it to myself, all day, every day. It helped me heal. I cried as I sang it, wrote it, recorded it. It was alchemy. I hope this song can bring this same kind of catharsis to another heartbroken one.”
“I wish this could be a song for the lovers,” Barkan sings, “but what you needed was not what I needed, now we’re both bleeding with another,” emphasizing that love can often lead us to unexpected places. This sentiment reminds us that even in our suffering, we’re not alone. Through the breathtaking authenticity of her work, Barkan encourages her audience to embrace their emotions fully. “Heartbroken ones, go in there and cry it out,” she urges. The song serves as a beautiful reminder that vulnerability can be a path to healing.
