“Big Bang” captivates listeners with profound lyrics that delve into themes of existential uncertainty and societal indifference. As the narrative reflects on an earthquake in New York, the song evokes feelings of anxiety that accompany unexpected natural events. The line, “How I didn’t know what to do?” highlights how we often remain unprepared for life’s unpredictability.

The lyrics in the song reveal an intriguing perspective: “A solar eclipse or the apocalypse and I still wouldn’t turn on the news.” This line encapsulates a resignation to chaos and the unknown, prompting listeners to ponder their reactions to catastrophic events. The phrase “Just do whatever you want” underscores a sense of freedom amidst panic, contrasting personal feelings with the overwhelming nature of external circumstances.

Overall, “Big Bang” touches on the vulnerability we face as humans. The vivid imagery of wildfires turning the sky orange portrays a world that feels increasingly hostile. Listeners are invited to reflect on their own experiences, especially when confronted with fear and uncertainty. “If today is our last day, I hope we go out with a bang” echoes a universal sentiment, suggesting that our response to calamity often defines who we are as humans.

In her own words, Paris Ray explains, “I wrote ‘Big Bang’ after the earthquake that hit New York last April. I was just feeling so overwhelmed with all the natural disasters (and unnatural disasters) we’ve lived through up to this point. When the Canadian wildfires made everything orange for weeks, it really looked like a scene from the apocalypse. Now, we’re living in a world that’s more divisive than ever, things are getting so scary. ‘Big Bang’ is about how if the world is ending, what else can we do but hold our friends, make music, and try to make the rest of our time here positive and full of joy?”
