Immerse Yourself in BANKS’ Poignant New Single “Candy” Featured on her “Off With Her Head” Deluxe Album

World-renowned singer-songwriter, BANKS (@hernameisbanks), recently released her brand-new single “Candy” via ADA Worldwide, the independent label and artist services arm of Warner Music Group.

BANKS – “Candy” Song

Candy

“Candy” is a poignant and introspective track that candidly addresses BANKS’ personal experience with depression, the complexities of antidepressants, and the internal struggle of whether to return to them.

In her own words, BANKS explains, “The feeling like I was weak. It made me angry. It’s something I had to overcome. This song is filled with my personal stories told in a dream-like way. It holds anger, blame, shame, feeling lost, love, and acceptance within its composition. It touches on family dynamics that happen when a member is depressed. When someone wants to help but can’t. When offers of advice feel offensive. When antidepressants are the answer. Like the candy a child needs to stop crying. The balance between childlike sounds and the heavy subject matter creates a world that feels eerie and beautiful.”

“Candy” is included on the deluxe version of BANKS’s most recent deluxe album, “Off With Her Head,” an extension of the bold, genre-defying body of work that channels raw emotion, vulnerability, and empowerment.

BANKS crafts moody, alternative pop with shades of contemporary R&B. Emerging in the early 2010s with her debut album, Goddess, BANKS created a dark signature sound of downtempo, alt-R&B that helped build a loyal, cross-genre audience. The critically acclaimed and gold-certified album peaked just outside the Top Ten on the Billboard 200 and features songs like “Before I Ever Met You,” “Warm Water,” and “Fall Over.” Her highly anticipated sophomore album, The Altar, was released in 2016 and includes singles “F*** with Myself,” “Gemini Feed,” and “Mind Games,” and peaked at number 17 on the Billboard 200.

BANKS returned with her third studio album, III, in 2019, followed by her 2022 album Serpentina, which she recorded amid the pandemic during months of isolation and is tied to themes of shedding old skin and embracing the new. In 2024, BANKS celebrated the 10-year anniversary of Goddess with the release of an acoustic version of the iconic album entitled Goddess: Unplugged, along with a four-continent sold-out tour where she teased songs from her fifth studio album, Off With Her Head to much fanfare.
