ASHY @ ashy_music (pronounced ‘Ahh-She’) is an effervescent pop artist and songwriter hailing from Aotearoa, New Zealand. She’s a musical chameleon, delving into sub-genres of R&B, dance, and contemporary sounds, and is known for her incredibly polished production, shimmering vocals, and catchy melodies. Not too long ago, she released an official lyric video for her latest single “Ottoman.”

In her own words, ASHY explains, “‘Ottoman focuses on challenges I’ve had in the music industry and life in general when I’ve been underestimated. The main lyrics in the pre-chorus ‘All too often I’m at a loss, I’m 10 steps behind at the start. On the Ottoman, out of oxygen, while you’re walking, I’m running’ actually directly speaks on how I’ve felt being an Indian woman in the commercial industry and that I have had to work 10 times harder to be recognized on the same level as some of my peers. This also has happened many times in my normal life, having to prove that I belong and should be treated the same as others when I first meet someone.
Producer James Guido (Sydney) made this track after performing at SXSW Sydney. An instance of this behavior came up during the festival and I felt I needed to write about it. James and I got along instantly, and this song was written and recorded within four hours. We spent the majority of our session getting lunch, chatting about ourselves and our industry experiences, and the song was born out of a common feeling we both had.”

ASHY has amassed over 3.5 million streams across all platforms, enjoyed chart success, and has worked with leading pop producers from New Zealand, Australia, and the US. She has worked with producers Josh Fountain (BENEE), Ben Wylen (Ariana Grande), Adrian Breakspear (Pharrell Williams), Liam Quinn (Peach PRC), and Sam Trevethick (Shapeshifter).
After landing sync placements in Emmy-nominated US TV Show Grown-ish and Aussie soap Home and Away, ASHY went on to perform at SXSW Sydney in October and then participated in an APRA Songhubs. She was also selected as an Official Performer for The Great Escape UK Festival for 2024.
In 2024, ASHY participated in a BIGFAN songwriting camp at Joel Little’s renowned studio, performed at the NZ On Air Showcase, and opened for the Drax Project NZ Tour.
