With a unique blend of dance pop and disco, “Taking Off” highlights the silky tone of chanteuse Liza Alexandra Cain, paired with anthemic lyricism, creating a nostalgic and unforgettable listening experience.
The accompanying video was co-directed by Liza Cain and industry legend Trey Fanjoy, known for her extensive work in country music as well as with artists like Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, and Sheryl Crow. The video brings the song’s vision to life, transporting viewers into the retro-futuristic daydream world of AJ Airlines, where disco takes flight and further amplifies the track’s call to action.
Liza adds, “The music video is an artistic representation of the freedom we feel in the song. We wanted to create a visual experience that matches the energy of the track and takes our audience on a journey into a world of limitless possibilities.”
Co-written with songwriters and producers David Blackwood and Zachary S. Cohan, the new bop calls for artistic freedom—breaking boundaries, letting go of limits, and fully trusting oneself. “We wanted to fuse something that makes you want to dance with something that inspires you to listen,” says Weston.

“Taking Off” reflects Alexandra John’s time at LAAMP, a nine-month music intensive in Santa Monica founded by Stargate’s Tor Hermansen and Mikkel Erikson. It highlights their growth as artists and marks a significant step in their musical evolution.
“I am not the same person I was when I started LAAMP,” says Liza. “It wasn’t only a musical growth experience but a personal journey. While in the experience, there isn’t much time to overthink… you just do. It allowed me to not have time to overthink, trust myself, and lean on my intuition and my collaborators for guidance. I am forever grateful for the program, mentors, collaborators, friends, and songs created.”
Weston adds, “Working at LAAMP was a life-changing experience. There’s nothing else like it. The collaboration and mixture of creatives is a recipe for some really cool songs. All while elevating each other to new heights creatively. Definitely walked out of that experience a different person.”

With a passion for live performances, Alexandra John continues to captivate audiences with their dynamic music. As Weston puts it, “There’s no place more fun for us than on stage.”
The duo first made their mark in 2022 with the release of singles “Demons,” “Strung Out,” and “Lock Me Down,” culminating the year with their highly anticipated debut EP, “Healing.” In 2023, the duo released two singles, “Lonely Night” and “Love Like This,” and have performed at notable venues across Los Angeles, including The Hotel Cafe, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and The Peppermint Club.
